My name is Patrick Crossen, and I am originally from Huntington Beach, California. I am currently a senior in the College of Human Ecology, majoring in Human Biology, Health, and Society (HBHS). On campus, I am a member of Human Ecology Ambassadors, serve on the Dean’s Undergraduate Advisory Council for the College of Human Ecology, and am a Student Advisor for the Division of Nutritional Sciences. My primary academic interests lie at the intersection between the biological and social sciences. I am interested in how different sociological constructs, such as socioeconomic status, race, and gender, shape human health. Following graduation, I hope to go to graduate school.

Working on this project has allowed me to take an active role in designing the neuroscience lesson plans. By doing this it has challenged me to think about how growth mindset and purpose in life principles can be embedded into these lessons.Thinking critically about the themes we try to integrate into our lessons has had a profound impact on my own beliefs about myself and purpose in life. As such, I hope that the students at the Syracuse Academy of Science are able to feel the same effect that I have felt and that this impact transcends far beyond this year.
